Character Designs

My interpretation of DALIKAMATA, the Visayan deity of health, specifically of the eyes.
"DALIKAMATA, a sympathetic goddess and liaison between the spirit world and the human world. She is a lovely maiden with thousands of eyes all over her body. She placed some of her eyes onto butterflies in order to watch over the humans in the morning, and uses the 'bukaw' (a Visayan owl species) to watch over them at night. She weeps at night for all the misfortunes the humans suffer, which would turn into morning dew. The baybaylans would collect the morning dew, believing it had healing properties.

KAYA, the story of an unusual mother
Logline: A secretive forest guardian forms a parental bond with an orphaned tribal girl who unwittingly exposes her to an alchemist with a macabre fascination for unusual creatures. Will this docile forest creature be able to protect her daughter from such a malicious force?
An art project with Lian Llose and Patricia Tesalona.

Early Concepts
I was tasked to create VEDASTO, the villain of our story. An alchemist whose interest lies in mutating nature and its creatures.
As a team, we agreed he should be thin, small, looks a little nerdy, be deceivingly harmless and charming.
As much as possible, I tried to integrate the barong-tagalog into steampunk-esque fashion in the early process but with little success.

Character Turnarounds

Girl Turnarounds + Cat Lamp for A VISION(ARY)
The main characters for the 11-second animation "A Vision(nary)". Original concept for the girl character was created by my fellow illustrator, comic artist and animator, Patricia Tesalona.
DULCET Concepts
Together with Patricia and Denise Cariño, an illustrator, we created another 11-second animation short called "Dulcet". The theme was something along the lines of re-igniting one's passion. We figured out the story once we figured out our main character-- We went through a lot of designs in one day until we reached our 'AHA' moment.

My early sketches of the main character for "DULCET" (red lines)
We knew we wanted something very simple. The resulting character was inspired by combining a CANDLE and a MATCH.

The heroine's friend (Zoey), the awkward heroine (Nenita), and the villainess [Lili(be)th]
